Izmir Meatballs Recipe (İzmir Köfte)

Directions

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, grated onion, bread crumbs, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, black pepper, and cumin. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Shape the mixture into small oblong patties. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Fry the patties until browned on all sides, then set aside. In the same skillet, add the sliced potatoes and fry until golden brown. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). In a baking dish, arrange the fried patties and potatoes. Add the sliced tomatoes and green peppers on top. In a small bowl, mix the tomato paste with water and pour it over the ingredients in the baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the sauce is thickened and the vegetables are tender. Serve hot, garnished with chopped parsley if desired.
