Turkish Fried Dough Balls Recipe (Lokma)

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add warm water while mixing until a smooth dough forms. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  2. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  3. Using a spoon or your hands, drop small pieces of dough into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  4. In a separate saucepan, combine sugar, water, and lemon juice to make the syrup. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Let it cool slightly.
  5. Dip the fried dough balls into the syrup, making sure they are fully coated. Remove and place on a serving plate. Serve warm.
